Keno was introduced in 200 before Christ by the Chinese military commander, Cheung Leung who used this game as a way to finance his failing forces. The metropolis of Cheung was waging a battle, and after awhile of war time seemed to be facing national famine with the excessive drop in supplies. Cheung Leung needed to develop a quick fix for the economic calamity and to produce money for his army. He, as it follows designed the game we now know as keno and it was a great success.

Keno used to be well-known as the White Pigeon Game, since the winning numbers were sent out by pigeons from larger municipalities to the lesser towns. The lottery 'Keno' was imported to the US in the 19th century by Chinese newcomers who came to the US for jobs. In those times, Keno used 120 numbers.

Today, Keno is normally bet on with 80 numbers in most of American land based casinos along with online casinos. Keno is mainly loved today because of the relaxed nature of gambling the game and the basic fact that there are little skills needed to enjoy Keno. Despite the fact that the odds of coming away with a win are horrible, there is always the possibility that you could hit quite large with little gaming investment.

Keno is played with eighty numbers with twenty numbers drawn each round. Gamblers of Keno can choose from 2 to 10 numbers and bet on them, whatever amount they want to. The payout of Keno is according to the wagers made and the roll out of matching numbers.

Keno has grown in popularity in the US since the close of the 1800's when the Chinese characters were changed with more familiar, US numbers. Lotteries were not covered under the legalization of wagering in Nevada State in Nineteen Thirty One. The casinos renamed the 'Chinese lotto' to 'horse race keno' employing the concept that the numbers are horses and you are looking for your horses to come in. When the Nevada government passed a law that levied a tax on off track betting, the casinos quickly changed the name to 'Keno'.
